Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) has decided to add new facilities to city-based SAIL Hockey Academy (SHA) and enable it to produce more international players in the future. The decision was taken at the academy`s governing body meeting here today.
Joining the meeting, which was chaired by RSP Chief Executive Officer G S Prasad, former India hockey captain Dilip Tirkey praised the contribution of SHA and put forth suggestions for addition of new facilities.
Now a Rajya Sabha Member, Tirkey admitted that SHA had played good role in grooming hockey talents of the region. He expressed satisfaction that trainees from academy have gone on to represent the country and many of them have also found employment in reputed organisations.
The former India captain came up with suggestions about addition of new facilities to the Biju Patnaik Hockey Stadium and make it suitable for conducting international practice matches. He also emphasised on fitness training of cadets. Accepting the suggestions, RSP CEO Prasad said all out action would be taken to implement it as soon as possible.
Earlier, a presentation regarding existing facilities of the academy and proposals for further improvement of the same was made by Deputy General Manager (Sports) Minati Mohapatra. RSP Executive Director M K Das, General Managers S Pradhan, P K Pradhan, B K Mohapatra, R Khan and other senior officers were present in the meeting. The CEO felicitated Tirkey on the occasion.
